A lot of homeowners don't realize how much usable space they're losing to overgrowth. Dense brush, invasive ground cover, and scattered boulders can quietly take over a side yard until the whole area becomes completely inaccessible. That's exactly what we were working with here.

The side yard along this home was packed with thick shrubs and tangled vegetation right up against the house. There was no clean access, no drainage to speak of, and definitely no way to run a mower through it. The rocks buried in the brush weren't helping either. It was just dead space sitting there doing nothing.

We brought in our Bobcat mini excavator to clear the vegetation, pull the rocks, and get the ground worked down to a clean, even grade. The mini ex is the right tool for a job like this - it gives us the control to work close to a structure without causing damage, while still having enough power to move material efficiently. Rocks that were buried in the brush got repositioned and used to line the natural boundary along the wooded edge, which helps define the space and adds a little erosion protection.

Once the clearing and excavation were done, we finished by grading the soil smooth across the entire area. The goal was a surface that drains properly and is flat enough to mow without any trouble. What used to be a tangled, unusable side yard is now a clean, open space ready for grass seed or sod. Simple as that.

This kind of work falls squarely in our land excavation and site prep wheelhouse. Whether it's a side yard like this, a larger clearing job, or full site prep for a future project, we have the equipment and experience to get the ground ready for whatever comes next.
